About This Book

God’s Big Plan, by theologians Theodore Hiebert and Elizabeth F. Caldwell, is a progressive retelling of the Tower of Babel story from the Book of Genesis about how God’s original plan was always for diversity. I’m not a particularly religious person, but it resonated with the way I was raised, with the values of both my Japanese-American and French/Irish/Catholic Worker backgrounds and I’m happy it’s in the world. It was a joy to paint the people of this region of the world, and also refreshing to hear God spoken about without gender. God is just God in this book. And what a delight to finally return to my original medium of collage here.

“Readers are taken from the world and people of ancient Babylon to divers,e modern children eating around a table, giving child readers the opportunity to relate to and see themselves reflected in the story. This is a provocative vehicle for introducing ideas of diversity to young readers.” — Kirkus Review
