Katie Yamasaki would be delighted to visit your school / organization.

Yamasaki was a teaching artist in the New York City public school system for over 14 years and would be thrilled to work with your community.

Yamasaki’s school and organizational visits can be suited to meet the needs of your population. She often will discuss her mural work as well, sharing public art projects that have taken her around the world. Her book presentations will take children through the bookmaking process, from an idea to a story, a thumbnail sketch to finished painting.

Slideshow presentations, Q&A session and a drawing demo can be comfortably done for audiences of 100 or fewer people. If the presentation is for a school, the ideal audience may be closer to 30-60 children for greater participation. These typically take about 45 minutes – one hour and she can do up to four in one day, depending on the school’s needs and schedule. Additional time should be factored in if the school is also interested in a book signing for the children. Book orders should be placed no less than one month prior to the visit.

If you would prefer to have a hands-on workshop either in book or mural-making, this is also an option for classes of 30 students or fewer. Yamasaki can also work with teachers ahead of time if they have specific curriculum themes that they would like addressed during the presentation and/or workshop.

The cost for a school visit in the NYC/Tri-State area (within a one hour train commute) is $600/day. Out of state visits are $800/day plus travel and accommodations. Out of state rates are negotiable, depending on the destination, nature of the visit and length of program.
