From Camps to Cranes
Earlham College, Richmond, Indiana. 2004
This project brought Yamasaki back to her alma mater to create a mural about the internment camps of WWII, and the important role the Quaker community played in supporting the Japanese.
Many Japanese and Japanese-American students who were interned were able to leave the camps to study at Quaker Colleges, Earlham being one such place. Yamasaki also enjoyed weaving part of her family’s own story into the imagery.
