Manhattan Comprehensive Night + Day High School, East Village, New York City
I love schools that remove barriers so students have a realistic chance of success. This project is at the Manhattan Comprehensive Night and Day High School. It’s a place where older students, late teens and early 20s can come for their high school education and graduate with a regents diploma, taking classes around the clock. Many, many immigrant students who have been living adult lives for a long time, many students who are parents themselves (childcare provided), many English Language Learners, many students who have full-time day jobs . . . It’s opening to see sacrifices people make for a high school diploma, something that, under other circumstances, can so often be taken for granted.
