Los Niños y La Guerra

Cosquin. Cordoba, Argentina. 2013

This project was part of an annual international mural conference in Cosquin, Cordoba, Argentina. Muralists from around the world gather in Argentina to address a specific topic, in this case it was “Children and War.” This mural represents the tremendous ability children have to cope and move forward, despite the worst of circumstances. Displaced children are seen walking across the land, above them float words inspired by the Zapatista resistance movement, “Land, health, education, work, food, home, etc.”

Demands for a peaceful life. In the background, images of ancestral children look on, hoping that at some point, we can learn from our war-filled histories on how to move forward in peace.

The woman in this picture is also named “Yamasaki.” She is Argentine-Japanese. Maybe . . . maybe there is a relation. Even though Yamasaki is kind of like “Smith” in Japan. You never know . . .

Friends and painters- both from the neighborhood and from the conference. My wall kept growing as I kept working!“Why don’t we prime this section too, Katie?” So funny.

Mural Dedication! This community was wonderful- always bringing food, drink, company, music, dogs, etc. to keep me company throughout the project.
